“Concussion: What You Need to Know,” December 2017

Joe grew up in Pearl River, NY. He played numerous sports growing up, including, baseball and basketball, but soccer was his passion. He played for numerous travel teams, including Arsenal, one of the local Bergen County teams, and for his high school. Go Pirates!

He minored in biology at Rutgers University New Brunswick campus and received his BS in Exercise Science. Suffering from a torn glenoid labrum in his right shoulder while at Rutgers, Joe was prescribed physical therapy. He was enamored by the capabilities of his therapist and their ability to make changes in his function and pain each session. Here he learned the importance of hard work and the true power of exercise. Since then, he believed that healing the body was a skill that does not always need more invasive means or medications. This prompted him to further his studies and apply for Physical Therapy school.

Joe was accepted to numerous PT schools, but decided the CUNY Graduate Center College of Staten Island, was the best fit. Here is where he really found a passion for orthopedic care, with a special interest in spine, shoulder, and knee pathology. He is currently undertaking a yearlong spinal manual therapy certification program with the International Spine and Pain Institute led by the famous physical therapist Adriaan Louw. 

Outside of his work, he enjoys being with his wife and family, weight training, cycling, and further educating himself through reading, pretty much non-stop. He also enjoys writing for Excel and in his own blog, www.physiojoe.com, where he discusses physical therapy and healthcare in general.

Joe firmly believes that every patient’s goals are of the utmost importance.
